I am fortunate to be born and raised in Humboldt. Because of our love for this unique community, my husband Andy, and I, chose to raise our family in the charming and progressive town of Arcata. After graduating with my MA in Psychology, I took a teaching position at College of the Redwoods, while subsequently opening a dance studio. As my family grew I left my position at CR and focused my efforts on the dance studio.
While raising my children and running a small business, I focused my volunteer efforts around the activities they were engaged in. Serving on boards and committees related to our local schools and youth sports programs is how I chose to give back to our community during that time. As my children got older I decided to shift the focus of my community service, and in 2020 I ran for and was elected to the Arcata City Council.
Getting to experience Arcata from the perspective of a council member is a privilege. Whether it be an emotionally-charged council meeting or a casual conversation in the grocery store, I strive to be thoughtful, compassionate and transparent. Helping our community find common ground on the issues that challenge us has truly been one of the best parts of serving on council.
